What I'd prefer to do is run an IRC server off RAFO's webserver, and link up some kind of NickServ that authenticates off RAFO's database. That way, people can only participate in the chat if they've the same name they do here. Otherwise, I can't do it; people being able to impersonate others is not a good idea.


You could simply set it up that people must have a registered nick to join the channel, and then have a thread here on RAFO where people post their IRC nick that they registered as a reply to that thread.

That way, no access list has to be maintained, but the people you appoint as ops can kick anyone who hasn't replied to that thread with what their registered nickname is. Or, at least they have a verification method if they suspect someone is causing trouble. "Not replied in the RAFO IRC thread? BANHAMMER!"

Banhammer conveniently in push button form in MIbbit. Undoing bans not to so much... I've accidently banned people with my ops and it took a while to undo it since I'm an IRC noob. XD

Disclaimer: As stated, I'm an IRC noob. The above suggestion is based on what works for an online game I play. They use a password in addition to that, but I see no reason why RAFO would need one. (You might.)
