It's not like he's casting aspersions on anyone or anything, he's just spotlighting obscure things that most people wouldn't otherwise explore. If you go around telling everyone that their favorite blockbuster movies are crap and that they should only watch "indie" films, that's elitist and condescending, sure, but that's not the same as acknowledging the many popular AND good movies while recommending others that are just as good but not as well known. It seems more to me like Larry tries to interest people in things he considers rewarding and enjoyable precisely because he knows most people don't explore them, not because they're so much less intelligent or cultured than he is, but because most people never have a reason and thus the desire to discover on their own the things he recommends. So he offers the reason in hope of creating the desire, to share things, not exclude people from them.
