I need to know British words that I (American) wouldn't use. Not super goofy, not crass, just normal (to you) words. For general conversational use.


No point trying to become proficient in Brit dialect overnight; your accent would be against you - the Brits would be expecting the cute Americanisms and would be disappointed if you were word perfect.

All you need to know now are the special ones where a perfectly innocent US dialect expression is transformed into embarassing or insulting words in Brit dialect. The rest will follow, naturally, don't force it.

You have more important cultural issues to overcome - etiquette, food, the natural restraint of the Brits, the Brit culture itself, and the proximity of foreigners = everybody who lives more than 3 miles away - to worry about word mismatches. Just make certain you know how to order kebabs and when to order them. Get that right and you will be fine.

Last thing. Brits get a bit strange when American persons use a knife and fork differently from the Brits. When in Rome and all that
