Here are the 4 choices I would recommend Roland00 Send a noteboard - 24/04/2011 04:32:58 AM
Microsoft Security Essentials (what I personally use, very light on computer resources, it is free but I have turn down free copies I get of NIS and Kaspersky which I can use via my work as a computer salesman for I prefer MSE)
ESET (very clean very light, has had a problem recently with false positives but nowhere near as bad as avast.)
Kaspersky
Norton Internet Security (norton used to be pure junk, but now it is better than about 80% of the other stuff on the market, much better than mcaffee, it is lighter on resources than it used to be but MSE and ESET are better on resource use.)

Do not use AVG (slow and boggy) or Avast (false positive finder) they may be free but if your goal is free then get MSE, for it is the same price but better.
