The jury is the only group that matters; I wasn't there, and they were. Who are we to claim we understand the facts better than they do?

the public was presented with all the evidence the jury was too so based on the statements and evidence released by the authorities I wold say a guilty verdict would be totally reasonable. I guess the real issue here is how shitty does a lawyer have to be to NOT get a guilty verdict form this case.

if the defense was able to get just one juror to have doubt about her guilt on murder charges then that's enough to declare her not guilty. in fact, that's the entire basis of our judicial system when it comes to criminal court. all 12 jurors must agree on the charges or else it doesn't hold up.

i know from (second-hand) experience that a murder conviction in a case built on circumstantial evidence is incredibly difficult to achieve. this is why many cases get reduced to manslaughter, but even then they weren't able to convince the entire jury of her guilt on manslaughter charges either. this tells me that the defense had just enough evidence to convince at least one person of the jury that she might not have done it, which is all they had to do.

All 12 on the jury voted that she was not guilty. Lets say that 11 said guilty and 1 said not guilty....and there was no way to work that out...then it would be a hung jury. The fact that the jury deliberated for, what, 12 hrs or so?....and they came back with a "not guilty" verdict tells me that all 12 were in agreement. Either way, it takes all 12 to say yes or no for a criminal case. A civil case doesn't need a unanimous vote.
