I imagine France and Italy would object to being lumped in with the UK and the Commonwealth. Rugby is strong in both of those countries, as well as in Argentina.

how very much rugby is a regional phenomenon. With the exception of the Paris team, all of the teams in the French league, iirc, are from the southwestern part of the country, and if you watch a game on French television, the accents of the commentators make it fairly clear as well.


Firstly - "With the exception of the Paris teams" would be what you need in there. Secondly - Lyon and Toulon are in the south but I wouldn't call them western.
Rugby is mostly a sport of the southwest but it spreads right across the south.
