Minerva is good. There have been some problems with the NuMI beamline (troubles with the target, lightning striking a power station, etc) so I think things have been down for a few weeks, but I believe the beam is either back up or due up within the next few days, so that is good.

I think I might have met Leo. Probably never had an actual conversation with him, though. I think he's on the crossover.


Yeah, I heard about the lightning strike. (I am still on some FNAL mailing lists, don't ask me how...)

Well, I visited Northwestern yesterday. I'm also looking at UChicago, MIT, Caltech, BU, Princeton, and Stony Brook, along with schools in the UK. We'll see how it all pans out I suppose.


I worked with Mayda Velasco, a professor at Northwestern, when I was at CERN as a summer student. You might not have met her, though, since she's likely to be there right now.

MIT, Caltech, and Princeton... better 990 that PGRE. ;)

You should check out phds.org if you haven't yet. They offer very highly customizable rankings for physics programs.

What group are you going to be working with at Stony Brook? HEP?


UMD College Park, not Stony Brook (probably just a typo, I know), and I'll be working with the CMS group there. I got offered half-time research, half-time teaching instead of full-time teaching for my first year, so I'm psyched about that.
