We in the UK had epidemics in 2001 and 2007, and Japan, Korea and Bulgaria have all had them in the last year.

But according to wikipedia, they aren't the same. Shame – we could do with FMD being gone. But it's great we managed to get rid of Rinderpest.

I was drawing an analogue to FMD because the sort of issues we're having with FMD today are similar to the issues they were having with Rinderpest in Europe then. I was just trying to explain it so people understood how much of an impact it had :)

I'm not sure we'll ever get rid of FMD. It's just SO contagious. There's one documented case where the ONLY explanation is that it crossed the English Channel on air currents. Obviously they can't prove it, but every other avenue has been DISproven. It is, quite literally, THE most contagious disease in the world.
