I'm a histotech planning on going to med school for pathology. And I have heard of both techs and pathologists getting acquired CJD. :tinfoilhat: So maybe tissue being dead has something to do with it.

I did some more reading on it and there are cases of that, but it did involve direct contact with infected organs/tissues. It's only spread by contact with brain and CSF, so the patients don't need to be put on isolation protocols.

And we have one patient on our service now who might have it (that's another reason why I read up on it). At first it looked a lot like HSV, but PCR was negative. Patient also has some of the EEG pattern. We're waiting for CSF protein 14-3-3 findings, but we might have to just do a brain biopsy if that's negative. Either way, our path lab will love us :dead:
