And the first responding in Oklahoma City after the bombing there? I have no problem with the fed helping the state offset some increased cost do to increased illness. I just don't want the federal government to assume responsibility for half of NYC health care. Bad things happen to people all the time. These kind of decisions need to based on reason not based on how we feel about 9-11 or first reposnders in general. It isn't like they don't have health insurance.


There could be a grey area here. Does an individual's health insurance usually pay for their medical expenses for injuries sustained on the job? I think in general the expectation is that the employer is responsible for those costs. I really don't know how that works for police/fire/rescue workers though.
