This isn't a political thread and my response to RT was, if meant to be accurate, more specifically meant to be a humorous 10 second explanation, I don't believe there was anything partisan or inaccurate in what I said. We've talked over PPP and HDI and SoL ad nauseam a couple years ago, I don't think there is a need to do so again and I wouldn't want to do so in this thread if there was.
To the extent that PPP is less objective than it seeks to be, however, I think politics is a lot of the reason (the difficulty of globally, precisely and consistently gauging the factors it attempts to address is another big part of the reason.) Purchasing power parity is well intended, a good start and far better than nothing, but I can't pretend it's perfect even if I do think it more useful, however biased (intentionally or not), than raw GDP numbers.
