Sensible in general, but I am not sure it is actually a valid reason for locking a post in our mb format.
No, you do have a point. On the TV&M I'd rather have someone add their opinion about Harry Potter 7.2 by writing a new reply to the big thread, which brings the post back up to the top than write a new one. It all depends which setting people have (new replies vs. new posts) and of course on the type of post. I wouldn't mind someone adding a survey reply months later, but continuing a discussion is a bit silly.
Why?
Isn't half the point of the written format of a forum (as opposed to chat) that it remains there for a long time and can be brought up again?
