Most TVs have some way of passing the audio that they get from an external source on to a second external source. An optical port, if nothing else. You still have two cords at that point, but one of them can stay constantly connected, so you only have to mess with one cord when you want to watch something. You can also use the speakers for regular tv at that point, too.


But plugging in the USB stick into the laptop is so much easier than finding a cord to connect laptop to TV, then TV to amp/speakers. In my version, also only one cord.

As far as speakers for the regular TV, that has some appeal, but I gotta figure out how to do it. That "some way" means research and buying cables. And it'd darned unlikely it will happen - no impetus, since everything already works fine.
