I have no concept of a "Christmas" cake

Cake is just...cake. It's always good, and it's always cake, and you should have it with just about any festive meal, since everyone wants dessert, and a cake is a nice centerpiece to it. In my understanding, the only cake that gets a distinguishing feature is a birthday cake, and that's only due to the inclusion of candles. Otherwise cake is cake, and equally good on any holiday.
Is there apparently some American or European tradition of eating cake only for certain holidays?

I am confused. Do Americans not do cake at Christmas?

My family's Christmas is Second Thansgiving, but with bonus desserts. Mostly pie, cookies, and candy *NM*

Or rather... Fifth Thanksgiving. Thanksgivings 2, 3, and 4 are all about Thanksgiving 1 leftovers. *NM*

We have different icing. It is not typically a very dense, flat sheet of solid icing. Like fondant.

Plus with loads of brandy used to "feed" the cake over the month before you ice it.

There are other birds which it's "acceptable" to eat at Christmas, other than turkey.

Fruitcake, I guess. But we don't coat it with disgusting icing. And it's not really cake. *NM*
