I have more than enough experience with the evangelical right to form my own opinions, thank you. I've worked with them, studied their patterns. I've had to, for better or worse, as I will have to work with them in my own congregations in the future. I have also done this in multiple parts of the country, from rural Ohio to Tuscaloosa AL as well as some work in Florida.
For the most part, that work is friendly and cordial, so long as we avoid the subject of politics. It's when politics do come up that I start feeling like bashing my head against every wall I find. This makes me the outsider I confessed to being in the original post... the same people who wanted to crucify Clinton for his sex life are willing to give Gingrich a pass... and Clinton ended up saving his marriage, while Gingrich's ended in divorce.
I do, however, agree with your last line 100%.
