The local rugby league team, the North Queensland Cowboys, have their home ground in Townsville, so you can head down there to catch a game.

Other than that...there's a lot of beautiful beaches and wildlife up there if you like bushwalking or just lying on the beach.

Are you going anywhere else in Australia?

I'm heading down there to visit an old friend, best friend since age 9 through high school, and even roommate in college until he moved to Arizona, and again to Australia. He lives in Townsville, and I don't know if he wants to travel much. I'm visiting with another good buddy from the old days - we were all best friends in high school, so the two of us visitors might also hit something else for a couple of days, but I imagine most of our time will be spent in Townsville.

I do like lying on the beach, but also rock climbing (just got home from bouldering at Horse Pens 40 - an awesome boulder fields here in Alabama, and I know that Magnetic Island has bouldering and rock climbing, so I'm hoping to get some of that in while I'm there. I'm also a caver, so a cave trip would be really cool, but I don't know if my friends would be into it.

Thanks for the advice.
