Re: The reference is to Romney not Pawlenty Isaac Send a noteboard - 11/02/2012 06:02:38 AM
I'm gonna guess here that this is in reference to Tim Pawlenty and how he is fairly 'mild-mannered'... otherwise you've totally lost me, and I don't prefer mild-mannered candidates. My preference is a slight modification of the Buckley rule, 'vote for the most conservative candidate who can get elected' for me becomes 'vote for the most conservative candidate who can effectively push the agenda forward'. If you were getting at something else, as I imagine was the case, you will probably have to spell it out.

Romney when he wakes up in the morning is not the same Romney that he is when he leaves his home/hotel room. As soon as he is in public he is something else, he is wearing a costume.

I have no idea what Romney is like in the morning before he puts his game face on and I doubt you do either. I think he comes off a bit plastic at the debates, he always seem much more relaxed at lower profile functions where he has the mike and just answers questions.

Romney's current costume for the last 6 years is how he views conservatives and the Republican party. Romney's past costumes is how he views Massachusetts independents, republicans, and moderate democrats. The public Romney though is just an invention and it is painfully obvious when Romney messes up and lets things "slip." Romney can't attract passion for people feels he is inauthentic and not real which is similar to how forgettable and boring Clark Kent is.

Actually I think most of those slips just indicate he's not good at brainwashing himself into thinking he has 100% pure and altruistic motives in his every action. It doesn't really bug me much that someone who probably never bothered to worry about the immigration status of one of the guys mowing his lawn might be motivated to look into it when considering a political bid, we all know that would have been at least a major factor, so it didn't really 'reveal' anything except he's either bad at keeping up the mask or he doesn't engage in internal mental gymnastics to try to convince himself his motives were snow white.

What does it say about Superman when he views the voters in such a way? What does it say about a man who is this inauthentic.

Mostly it says you don't like the guy and think he's not authentic... which either means you think most politicians are, which strikes me as improbable, or your actual complaint is that he isn't as good at smiling for the cameras while lying through his teeth. Personally I think the guy kinda deserves Huntsman's description of 'perfectly lubricated weather vane' but it doesn't really bug me too much that the guy has had mixed emotions or changes of feeling on healthcare or abortion, since a lot of us have. But I'm not sure why you bring any of this up, I'm not and never have been wildly enthusiastic about Romney, I just don't consider Santorum or Gingrich viable options and I don't want Obama re-elected.
