Of course not all Tories magically changed their mind from one day to the next, but you have to give Cameron (or perhaps others influenced him, I don't know the details) some credit for leading his party in the right direction - and the very Home Office whose plans this guy is railing about is in Tory hands, as I hardly need to point out. If anything, having strong opposition within his party makes Cameron more deserving of credit, rather than less - and gives us hope for conservative parties elsewhere.


I think the issue for me is if he has actually changed minds or merely managed to promote a minority of people within the party who agree with him to high up with little impact on the attitude of the Tory party and supporters as a whole, I suspect it is the latter. I think Cameron does believe in what he is doing... I'm not sure it goes much deeper in the Tory party than that though - time will tell if it holds once he is out of office.
