And then it has to survive an extreme inbreeding situation and adapt to a world where every virus or bacteria has a head start on its immune system by a few thousand years (of course, this could also work in favour of the mammoth, but I doubt it).
Sure, I'd be as excited as anyone if they actually succeed with this, but... No, I'm sorry; it's gone and it won't come back. The money and the technology is better used on still living species (or recently extinct ones, such as the baiji).
