Maybe that accounts for some of what I'm seeing here, because I can't fathom anyone describing the rye bread I eat as gross.

The rye bread I eat, which is just called plain old rye bread in my grocery store, might be Winnipeg-style rye bread, but I'm not sure. At any rate, it's a relatively light-coloured bread that's denser than any white bread but not as dense as some breads I've seen. It has a firm but soft crust, and it is delicious.

I've linked a picture, which is of Polish buttermilk rye bread. I don't know if mine is the same, but it looks quite similar.

What do other people think of when they think rye bread? Is it quite different from mine?
