I mean, it's possible you hate zoos anyway, but "food" walks past those lions all day long - I highly doubt that the lion knows what a zebra is, unless they took him from Africa as and adult - isn't that illegal? He is still a cat, cats like to play, they tease themselves all day long, it is very unlikely he was starved, etc. I mean, unless I'm right about a basic hatred of zoos, how is this different from when my cat goes crazy like that, trying to get the grass, toy, leaf, his cat friend, etc on the other side of the glass? I've seen him do that very same thing.
I hate zoos? How did you get that from what I said? I love zoos and I love animals which is why I am pissed at what they did. And attacking zebras and any prey for that matter is an instinct, strengthened by reinforcement, so where the lion was born is irrelevant. The lion is clearly not "playing" like a domesticated house cat 1/20 the lion's size, if the barrier wasn't there the lion would kill and eat that baby in an instant. So, again, instead of removing the child and putting an end to the lion's behavior the child's parents are standing there laughing like the stupid dolts they are while essentially teasing the lion to no end.
what should I do if the lion decides I look tasty and comes up to "play?"
I dunno... what do you usually do when someone thinks you look, uhh, "tasty"?
My point about the zebra was that you sounded as though you thought the parents may have specifically tried to tease the lion by dressing the kid as prey, and I don't believe that is accurate. It simply probably thinks of ALL of us as prey, and the reaction happened to be caught on camera this time.
I don't think lions like humans as prey. It probably thought the kid was a toy.
They weren't dangling the kid over the edge, throwing things or doing anything other than being on the observation side of the cage. So, I'm not sure how you think people are supposed to experience the zoo, unless you expect them to whisk their kids and families away because a lion has a reaction. I would have laughed too, and I still am, as an observer. No matter what you think about the house cat: lion comparison, I've seen lions play with balls, toys, etc and it is ALL part of the kill instinct, just like it is with regular cats. He'll get over it - he doesn't get meat out of a ball or anything else he plays with either.
Yeah, that lion probably just needed to take its Alzheimer meds.
