And speaks what...Hungarian? Tom Send a noteboard - 13/06/2012 07:07:33 AM
All the Romance languages and, of course, Greek, use the term in a form that is close enough, and speakers of Slavic languages tend to be intelligent and recognize the word (at least, the ones I know do). Speakers of East Asian languages would look everything up first, and so I don't think they would have a problem with the word, either.

The person sounds like an incredibly stupid person regardless of native language.
Political correctness is the pettiest form of casuistry.

– Procopius

My impression is she understood it, but questions the legitimacy of its general definition. - 12/06/2012 08:11:58 PM 378 Views
No, that's still ignorance. - 12/06/2012 08:51:50 PM 358 Views
Perhaps, technically, it is ignorance AS inexperience. - 12/06/2012 10:08:46 PM 391 Views
Perhaps "dwarf" or "surpass," but "eclipse" is a perfectly cromulent word. - 12/06/2012 07:51:26 PM 514 Views
