it would probably make me give up on cycling if they were.

...then you can pretty much write up all of cycling, road and track as one big dope zone.

Wiggins is not only a 3 time olympic champion and huge student of cycling history (a real lover of the sport), but he has also been one of the most vocal critics of drug abuse since his first olympics in 2000. And this in a country, the UK, that has always been hugely harsh on drugs. This is the country after all that challenged the IoC to be allowed to maintain their world unique lifetime olypmic ban on drugs cheats (which sadly they lost, stupid IoC).

I think the success is really all down to a quality athelete and more importantly, perhaps far more importantly, Dave Brailsford's training system. This system made mincemeat of the olympics twice in a row, and now 3 years into their road race project it's starting to deliver.

I've actually spent several hours in presentations and chats with the guys managing and training under this system, including Sir Chris Hoy, and it's incredible. The attention to detail, the precision, the science, the medical supervision, the psychologists, and of course the athletes. Nothing is left to chance, from when they wake up to when they sleep and everything in between is planned, monitored, analysed, again and again and again. If something didn't work (le Tour 2010 anyone), sit down, work it out and start again (they went to high altitude training in Tenerife).

You take olympic calibre guys, you add that system, you throw in unlimited money from Sky that lets you cherry pick your fellow team members, you spend 3 years bringing it together with one goal in mind.

Will it work? I have no idea, I still think Evans is the man to beat and expect him to have a couple big days in the mountains. But if it doesn't work, it's not because they left anything to chance.
