I thought it was surprisingly excellent. Mostly. Rebekah Send a noteboard - 28/07/2012 01:28:56 PM
The film and music bit went on a little too long, and (unfortunately) Sir Paul is a little past it and chose the wrong song, I think.

But there were some real stand-out moments. The forging of the Olympic rings was beautiful, Rowan Atkinson hilarious (I love so much that they put that into an Opening Ceremony), and Emeli Sande singing "Abide With Me" was just beautiful.

But the absolute best bit was the cauldron. I think that was inspired. Such a good idea to make the flame up from petals representing each nation competing, and to have seven young sportspeople to light it. It was stunning.

As always, the teams walking in was great. Props to Mexico, New Zealand, most of the Middle Eastern teams, and the Czech Republic for their outfits. (I think there were others I thought were gorgeous but I can't remember them all.) France and Team GB were disappointing.

I think it was a re-imagining of Saruman transforming Isengard into an Orc-production facility. *NM* - 28/07/2012 01:53:01 AM 369 Views

More of a de-imagining, I think, given what inspired Tolkien. *NM* - 28/07/2012 11:09:33 AM 388 Views
