You'd like to see us field a lesser team just so the games will be closer? A team made up of players from the same league, with the same contracts and financial obligations, but just, you know, not quite as good? I don't get it. Should the Chinese send their second string table tennis players, or divers? Or maybe we should have kept Phelps and Lochte out of the pool? I mean I can understand wanting some of the eligibility rules changed to keep the Olympics an amateur-only competition, but asking a team to artificially limit themselves within the legal ruleset seems odd, to say the least. Not to mention completely against the spirit of competitive excellence embodied by the Games.
