the olympics *used* to be about the best athletes competing against each other, now it is about how much money those athletes can make for the olympics brand and merchandising.


surely they count as being amongst the best athletes?
I doubt most athletes make much money out of it - the chance to take place and win gold is the key thing, being professional just means they maximise their chances.
