The "millionaire vigilantes are not Everymen" argument works even better for Ironman than for Batman: Most people would like full access to a multinational arms manufacturers resources for whatever purpose they see fit, but history and common sense suggest that would produce many Dr. Dooms and very few Ironmen.

That is not to say he is not suitably heroic, but the "gee, he is just like me" perspective is only valid for those with majority ownership of Lockheed-Martin.
