Yeah, OK 27-3 with 10:30 left in the third; you got me to look it up after all. Joel Send a noteboard - 15/09/2012 12:33:53 AM
The first third quarter score was Romo to Witten for a TD, so the pick sixes did not come RIGHT after the half. It has been a while since I looked at that game, but last time I checked the play-by-play the first pick six came after the third quarter was half done, IIRC.

It came on the next Cowboys possession. Forgot they scored to open the half.

Not much to say about a QB who tries to force a ball in not once but TWICE when leading by three scores in the second half. At the time, rt tried to blame it on Garrett calling pass plays despite a huge lead, but unless he told Romo throw into double coverage, I do not buy that.

EDIT: I must say, the whole "anyone can have a bad game" argument falls a little flat as an excuse for:

Last years loss to the Jets,
Last years loss to the Lions,
Last years first loss to NY,
The playoff loss to Seattle and
More games than I can count that were just as bad but got less press.

Sure, anyone can have one off day; Romos just happens to be Sunday. :(

Agree on the Jets and Lions. Ny? What are you smoking? How does 300+ yards, 4 TDs, 0 int, fall on Romo? Who, by the way, drove them down for the game tying FG anyways but the kick was blocked. And you might want to rewatch the Seattle game again. Yes, Romo botched the hold on a new, slick ball in the misty rain. (Remember they changed the rules about new balls after this). But there was still 1:19 left to play, more than enough time for Seattle to drive against the same D they had been driving on all half. They just needed a FG to win it. Always remember the play before the botched hold, where the refs ruled that Witten was down a yard short of the first down, but the replay was really inconclusive to me. Also, since you blame Romo for a safety in the Giants game, Terry Glenn had a costly safety in the 4th quarter on what should have been a touchdown, but he fumbled the ball out of the endzone.

What other games do ya got?

The safety is on Romo, and thus at least part of the Giants FG on their next drive (which started just inside their own 30 but the Cowboys D held to a FG.)

Inconclusive is just that, and a touchback (which is what fumbling the ball out of an opponents endzone causes) is not a safety. We will never know what Seattle would have done if Romo had not botched the hold on the FG against Seattle, or if, after Witten got them close enough to a first down to justify a replay, he had stretched out for the first down when the Seahawks tackled him. All we know for sure is that if Romo had gotten the hold down Dallas would have taken the lead, and if he had managed even an inch running with the ball they could have run the clock down to 0:01 and kicked the game winning FG even if they did not reach the endzone.

Those are three very big chokes almost entirely on him even if I give you the first Giants game last year. Choking away one out of every eight games (which even you concede he did last year) is not the mark of a winner, let alone a champion. We can talk about Eli riding his D all you like, but how many times has he thrown away a game they had won? His seminal moment came, not when his D had given him a lead, but trailing by 4 against an elite D, where he nonetheless led the team to a Super Bowl winning TD. I still have no idea how he avoided a sack on that 4th down pass to Tyree, but know the guy who stumbled into his own endzone and fell over against the Giants could not have done so.

Romo has the talent and the skill; he just lacks the composure.
