Going after him for -not- claiming charitable deductions is going to backfire if the Democratic party keeps it up. By the same token, the Republican party would be wise not to make too big a deal out of their respective charitable donations.


Going after him for it is silly, but it is amusing that Romney previously said that any person who doesn't make every single deduction they can is an idiot, then he was forced to do so in order to keep his tax rate above the level he said he has at least paid for the past decade. Not to mention, he can claim the deductions next year, so it really doesn't even matter at all for him. Not a point to attack, more simply a point of amusement for those who pay attention.

That being said, I kinda fall on the side of things where I don't exactly view churches in the same light as charities, particularly when those churches take an active role in certain realms of the political process, but that's a whole separate argument.
