From what I understand, private schools take some of the burden off the public system and the taxpayer by seeking external sources of revenue. I can see where this has pitfalls, but I'm sure the parents wouldn't send the kids there if they were being brainwashed by some faceless corporation or anything.
Private schools sound more like Australian selective schools than Australian private schools, and so some confusion may have arisen re. my last remarks about Australian private schools, and I apologise for that.
All in all, this actually sounds like a good system where certain students can focus on their more apparent abilities (like music, dance etc) whereas students who don't have any interests like that can go to the local public school.
