Seems it depends on the legislation you're in. Legolas Send a noteboard - 25/10/2012 10:50:09 PM
Sexual Assault (which I associate in my mind with rape, but which I will try to separate the two for this discussion for legally they are different things) unlike Rape can be any unwanted sexual contact. Forcing to carry a baby to term without any consent is a violation of a women.

According to Wikipedia, the FBI updated their definition only this year, to read: "The penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or object, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person, without the consent of the victim."

Which means, and I think rightly so, that penetration with an object - including your turkey baster - is still rape. But in other countries the definition of rape is more narrow (possibly in the US too - the FBI having such a definition doesn't mean that criminal law says the same thing).

Anyhow, this is as you noted a rather pointless and inflammatory discussion. To get more or less back on track - am I the only one who isn't actually shocked by Mourdock's statement? If my source is correct, he said "Life is that gift from God that I think even if life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen."

While I obviously couldn't disagree more about outlawing abortion for women who've been raped, I don't really see why the statement is so controversial. I'm not sure how any conservative Christian could ever claim the opposite, so what's so scandalous about him saying it? Why would he need to apologize?
