It is more intimidating than "Sandy." Joel Send a noteboard - 28/10/2012 03:46:05 PM
Seriously, I know the storm is serious. But there must be a better name!

"Sandy" sounds like the nice, cute and unremarkable girl in a print dress you met at the church picnic, not something that will stack your car on top of your house. Personally, I am a bit dubious she is anything more than that now; current reports are that the storm, though still very large, is nonetheless just barely hurricane strength. I know Yankees are as unaccustomed to hurricanes as Texans are to blizzards (or were; this will be their second hurricane in as many years, even if Global Warming is a liberal myth ;)) but I think ya'll will weather it well.

The biggest hurricane concern is always flooding, and combining with another major storm increases that threat with Sandy, but evacuating to high ground (if necessary) avoids the worst of that. The tendency to spawn tornadoes is unnerving and dangerous, but Sandy is weak enough now that should not be too extreme. I will keep ya'll in my prayers regardless; good luck and God bless.
