I agree. Dannymac Send a noteboard - 15/12/2012 04:46:45 AM
Sadly, there will likely never be a day when acts of evil and madness don't occur. What I think that we can do is try to figure out why our society is permeated with violence. We probably need to devote a lot more resources to mental health than we presently do. I know lots of people are calling for gun control, but then I remember how Tim McVeigh killed hundreds with some fertilizer and a rented truck. Also, we have had guns for the entire history of the Republic, and submachineguns since the 1920s. We have been capable of these rampages for almost 100 years from a technical standpoint, yet they were isolated until about the last 25 years or so. Why? What is it that has made us more violent?

And I don't know. I get questions about this all the time from people who want the answers and... I don't know. Sometimes I want to blame the media (which may be like blaming the thermometer for a fever) and sometimes I want to blame guns.

I think, at the core, there is a growing level of anger and dissasociation. Like Ghavrel said, in this age of instant communications, fewer and fewer people have any real connections with other people.

I just don't know.
