The head and neck area is a pretty small target and is packed with very critical body parts.
She apparently managed to hit that small target five times without touching the windpipe, carotid, jugular, brain, spinal cord, etc. That seems incredibly unlikely to me. I was just surprised is all.

I kept expecting to read in the story that he eventually died. 38s are the only reason he's alive I think. Any bigger caliber and it's lights out.
yes, it's quite remarkable that such injuries are survivable, but i guess not as unlikely as you would suspect...
