I claim no objectivity, but that strikes me as a distinction without a difference. Joel Send a noteboard - 23/08/2013 04:13:56 PM

View original postOf course those nutters love a conspiracy.

Amen to that, though they inexplicably consider their boy above conspiracies. Granted, the guy was a registered Republican for his entire life apart from his 1988 presidential run when his own party would not have him, and served 26+ years in Congress as a Republican, but somehow he is always and only a Libertarian to them—even when running in the GOP presidential primary.

Last years GOP primary was the giveaway to everyone else though, when Paul spent the whole campaign savaging each and every challenger to Romney in turn, yet never took any shots at Romney himself, even though he had been the clear frontrunner since the '08 election and Paul was (ostensibly) trying to beat him out for the nomination. I still think there was a quid pro quo (Santorum alleged as much,) perhaps putting Rand on the ticket or something, and Paul got what he deserved: Once Romney had the nomination there was no way to hold him to the deal; Paul could hardly publicly accuse him of breaking a backroom deal since it would be admitting he took a dive for the sake of bringing down Romneys challengers in exchange for a political payback.

Again: When Ron Paul publicly defends the FED CHAIRMAN from criticism by a governor of his own state and party, something is rotten in the state of Texas. He was right to do it, but knowing Pauls history with the Fed I cannot help thinking him right for the wrong covert reason.

Not that Gary Johnson is better, of course, but HIS fans deride Paul as an establishment faux-Libertarian while trumpeting Johnson as the real deal. We can tell he is a devoted Libertarian by the way he ALSO spent his entire decades in office as a registered Republican, then ran for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination. Only when it became blindingly clear to even him he had no shot did he leave the GOP and register, for the first time, as Libertarian—less than a year before the election.

Sometimes I wonder why these jokers never manage to parlay popular disgust with both parties into any political accomplishments instead of being perennialy reduced to the GOPs anti-government foils. Every four years they faithfully remind me EXACTLY why. I remember saying something about the gold standard on the Drag in '92; some Paul groupie excitedly ran up and was all like, "You like the gold standard?! Lemme preach you why Ron Paul is Jesus II!!!" and I was like, "yeah, I like the gold standard and dislike gunboat diplomacy; it is the other 95% of Ron Pauls loopy agenda I cannot handle." Perot was 1000X better; for one thing, he is sane.
