On civil rights (gay rights), depending on how one wants to look at it, he has been anything but a failure for the LGBT community. Of course one could argue that he read the zeitgeist smartly/cynically and used extending rights to the LGBT community for his own personal gains.

Hell, one could argue many things about his many failures. I don't think one could argue that he is a total failure. Just like the leftists/liberals need to be fair to Bush II when discussing him and thinking about his African achievements and initiatives.
