Looking back at the details of the Korean and Vietnam wars, I certainly couldn't tell you many of the details other than the high points. However, people living in the times of those wars could probably give much more precise details if dulled slightly over time. However, history will look at them as a tie in Korea and essentially a loss in Vietnam. The public outcry and the hippy culture of the 70's actually became part of history.
I don't think you will see that 30+ years from now about Iraq. You will have a history written where we invaded, removed the dictator, fought an insurgency for quite some time, and then ultimately replaced it with a new government. To us, living during this time, being constantly pelted with controversy from the ratings whoring media, it seems like nothing but a farce and a failure. Once the details have dulled to only highlights, I believe history will look back on the Iraq war (and probably Afghanistan as well) and see them as very different from Vietnam.
This point is pretty key because the War on Terrorism and Iraq is what defined and dominated GWB's presidency. If history looks on those wars favorably, you will probably see GWB's presidency viewed favorably as well. He certainly won't be getting a spot on Mount Rushmore but I don't think you will see him as reviled as he is now.
