I believe "Kingdom of the Netherlands" is still the formally correct name. Legolas Send a noteboard - 11/03/2014 10:29:30 PM

View original postI ordered a few more Pléiade books from France (Chateaubriand and Montesquieu, 2 volumes of the latter and one of the former) from amazon. Amazon.fr is actually located in the Netherlands (or perhaps I'm supposed to be calling it just Netherlands now that they broke away from the Habsburgs), something I've noticed several times. However, the books are shipping from Spain, which tells me that amazon.fr probably doesn't have warehouses in France anymore (I knew they had a bunch in Germany).

Although technically the Netherlands are only a part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands... anyhow, as you may know, in Dutch it's simply "Nederland", so considering your love for following your own path in terms of how to call certain countries, I'd say do feel free to start a trend of referring to it as "Netherland" in English as well.

Had not noticed anything like that yet, I'll make sure to investigate next time I order anything from amazon.fr. On a vaguely related note, I just posted a review of a completely different French classic on the Books board, and since I figure you two are two of the only three people likely to reply to that one, I may as well announce it here.

Also, do we really even need any more signs of France's economic decline? At least they are growing more aware of it and more inclined to change things.
