Obama is deeply unpopular and a terrible politician. After the midterms it is likely that Democrats will rally around someone else (like Hillary Clinton) to bypass the President by cutting deals with Republicans to pass certain legislation with veto-proof majorities.

The Republicans shouldn't be in a position to create a gridlock because they don't like the guy they lost to.
