It lets the stupidest people vote (in many cases, to get more government largesse for themselves), it makes politicians into demagogues and it encourages the most mediocre or even sometimes incompetent people to fill the ranks of government, and it functions inefficiently and terribly. For all that, I still am not aware of a better system.
