I like very little of the poppy factory country western played on the radio these days and I listen almost exclusively to local bands who write their own music and play mostly small venues. Only a couple of stations play it but the nice thing is I can going see someone I like any Friday or Saturday night and it is anywhere form free to $20 90% of the time.
I should probably try and get more exposure to different genres but as I get older I find pop boring and too much modern rock seems derivative and predicable. I know the stuff I listened to in the 70 & 80s wasn't much better but it was new to me at the time and Back and Black will always be one of the greatest rock albums ever. Some R&B is OK but like classic rock I am tired of the really good stuff and rap has never appealed to me.
funny thing is I have never been much of Johnny Cash fan. A few really food songs with loads of bad ones. I would take Buck Owens or George Jones over Johnny any day.
