The timing was both deliberate and not deliberate, which amuses me. Wibble Send a noteboard - 05/06/2015 02:18:43 AM

Did they arrest people to impact the election? No. Did they arrest people as they knew they'd all have to be in the same place at the same time in a friendly country? Yes. So it was both because of the election, and yet had nothing to do with the election, brilliant!

And this resignation now, less than a week after he won re-election, makes quite clear that there may be even bigger allegations to come, not that the ones already mentioned weren't serious enough. It's certainly long past time that FIFA is cleaned up - and it'll be interesting to see what happens to the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.

I reckon the world cups will both go to the countries awarded them, bar some monumental evidence coming out. Qatar is in the middle of spending $200BN on the World Cup...$200BN! It would take a brave company indeed, with a watertight defence of a breach of contract to try and stop that behemoth. Unless the contracts have clauses in them that cover cancellation due to bribery, criminal activity or some kind of disrepute, i cant see how Fifa get out of it. I'm sure a lot of lawyers are all very busy just now.
