View original postRegardless off its racism or not. That's an intense slippery slope and really, it's such an impedance on our first amendment rights. I CAN understand not flying the flag in government places but to say we should ban anything is inherently unconstitutional.

Despite that, I have a hard time understanding why people can't realize that what it means to some people, it doesn't mean to others. To so many southerners, it's a symbol of heritage and a symbol of their culture, not a symbol of enslaving blacks once again or even rising up against the north.

"But it was born from slavery!" one might say. Yeah? And so what? Our U.S. flag was born of resistance to Great Britain. But now it means something entirely different. They're one of our greatest allies. So clearly the U.S. flag has changed its representation. Why can't the Stars and Bars? And living in VA and talking to some people down here, they defend the flag because of their own reasons, not because they hate black people and want slaves again and hate "Yankees."

Come on, man. Nobody's fighting the Civil War anymore. That's just something people say when they don't know what the hell they're talking about.


The US and Europe are different in many ways, and I strongly feel BOTH got important things right that the other got horribly wrong. Free speech is one the US got right (though I still contend we went too far the other way when the SCOTUS allowed the Klan to preach violence as long as it does not name specific immediate targets.)

Yes, Nazism is disgusting, reprehensible and has absolutely ZERO redeeming qualities, but we should ban VIOLENCE, not HATRED, because dictating what people THINK is the worst tyranny, and liberty of conscience the liberty to be horrifically inexcusably wrong so long as it harms no other. And no, racism unempowered by ACTS does not harm anyone any more than any other forms of being a total SOB. Same as we should not declare some assaults worse than others based on WHOM is the victim, except when that victim is exceptionally innocent/vulnerable. Note, btw, "vulnerable," does not mean "sure he is a 6'5" Green Beret, but his RACE is subjected to lots of violence," it means "htf can you punch a three-year-old KID in the mouth: He cannot POSSIBLY have done anything to 'deserve' that, and at least an adult might be able to defend themselves.")
