It is pretty obvious that they are violating neither the spirt nor the letter random thoughts Send a noteboard - 31/05/2016 08:24:07 PM

We see left wing media outlets (sometimes referred to as mainstream media)imply that the republicans position themselves as champions of the constitution and are now violating it when it suites them. Which of course is unmitigated bullshit. We are not talking ambiguous laws or moral high ground we are talking about very plain words in a very short document. There is no indication that any of the writers of the constitution believed that the senate was obligated to vote on a presidential nominee, if anything they were very big fans of the senate serving as a check on the executive branch so any spirit of law argument falls flat. The document is very clear that the senate regulates itself and has the sole power to decide when and how it decides to give approval so the letter of the law is clearly on their side. The only one really arguing otherwise is ivory tower law professors who have all gotten together and decided laws should mean what even we want them to mean and the actual words or intent do not matter. We really should deport them all and start over because they are destroying rule of law and replacing it with rule of opinion. I know we can't deport them but we should defund any law school selling that insane and destructive philosophy.

You can argue all you want that the republicans have a moral obligation to give him a vote, that is pure opinion and we all know everyone's opinion on this changes as soon at the parties involved change but to argue that they have a constitutional obligation is frankly stupid.
