I don't think he really wanted to win, he just wanted to have some fun and free publicity. He was looking for an exit, hence all the recent crazy stuff. He'll drop out very soon.

I wonder if he was actually a secret sleeper agent for the Democrats? 
He's really made all the Republican leaders look like idiots and embarrassed them all pretty badly.
under campaign finance laws, if he has money in a SuperPAC and there's anything left over in the bank, he can just write himself a big check and take the money with no consequences. but he's reportedly not doing a lot of fundraising, so who knows?
as to making republican leaders look like idiots: he's only giving them what they've been saying for about the last 20+ years. the big difference is they've been couching their language so as not to appear callous and racist, whereas Trump has no such filter.
