They were Volga-Germans, not sure of the exact location. Lutherans. My grandma said she could never get any of them to talk about Russia, so the only thing she could tell us was that they'd repeat "the Bolsheviks were coming."

Oooh Volga Germans! Fascinating topic. I have some of their blood in me through my mother's family. At some point they moved to Rostov on Don during the 19th century. But hard to find records. So much was lost/destroyed during the Revolution then the Civil War then the German Invasion during WWII.
