Although I'm definitely leaning toward never spanking, myself. I knew at about age 4 or 5 that spanking was a punishment or consequence for willfully misbehaving-the same as time out, which I also got-but I don't remember it often being a big deterrent. Sometimes it was, sometimes it wasn't.

But personally, I don't want to do it. I don't feel it's necessary in order to effectively discipline a child. I'd prefer to explore other options.
