Ever since I got my first Kindle (2009, maybe), I've refused to read paper books. LiterateDog Send a noteboard - 23/04/2017 04:12:49 AM

Paper books are heavy, cumbersome to carry, not ideal environmentally, and cost more. I carry my newest Kindle with me everywhere. It is tiny, easy to read, and lasts for many, many hours. I am able to literally carry 100s of books with me at all times, all in a device weighing but a few ounces. Technology for the win!

I understand people's psychological and/or nostalgic reasons for still preferring old books. But, really, it is no different than carrying (at all times): a old bag cell phone (because you love a "real" handset and like how the cord looks), a separate camera (that uses film, because you love the "click...whirr" ), a video camera (because you like the weight of the camera on your shoulder), a boom box and bag of cassettes (because you love to feel the beat), an atlas and compass (because you love the feel/smell of the paper)....and doesn't even get into all the knowledge you can look up online with a modern cell phone.

But, you don't carry all those things. At least not in that way. You carry one beautiful little device that does all that and much, much more.My Kindle is the same. it carries hundreds of books, can look up words for me, and weights less than a single paperback. It is marvelous. Join the modern world! Embrace e-book technology.

If you don't, that's okay. It doesn't harm me in the slightest. But I still reserve the right to think of you with a slight stain of luddism.
