I like them for the huge, craggy branching structure. And they made roller-skating down my grandma's sidewalk something of an adventure/death wish.:D

It's probably mostly about memories.

True. If I went just on memories, it would be the cottonwood for me, because that was My tree when I was a kid. But they are terribly annoying around April/May. Anyway, I love oak too, for many reasons... and sugar maple, because they're so gorgeous in the fall.
Those are as individuals though. Pine forests are probably my favorite.
