Re: Really? Isaac Send a noteboard - 14/10/2009 03:52:48 AM
I guess I'm not surprised by the ages, I had actually thought you my slight junior, but I'd have guessed maybe 26 or so, it's rare but not unheard of to find someone who gets global politics under 30, I might guess you were the Neatherland equivalent to a C-span junkie.

Pretty much. As a lazy student who should have graduated last year already, I have way too much time on my hands and spend way too much time following the news, among other things. ;)
But the list, no, I think that one is fairly solid, I could name some others, but not really. Greg is one of the few remaining liberals, real liberals ala John Locke, cannoli can be abrasive but always puts forth solid arguments. Joel is a gentleman and scholar, as is Tom. Greg and Canolli are clearly scholars, but I'd hesitate to call either a gentleman, unless 'tongue like a whipcord' now qualifies. They don't just repeat the party line, and I respect that. There are others, surely, who parallel, but rarely on so many points and issues. I've no need for party rhetoric, I get emailed both regularly. No, I like posting to them and you because I don't have to spend half my time worried I might accidently offend or fail to get through the conditioning. I've probably just insulted everyone else who reads this, but it is what it is.

Joel is certainly a gentleman, but his inclusion in the list surprises me mainly because he hardly ever budges at all on anything, even in the face of obviously superior arguments or when he's clearly wrong. Though I suppose the others you name don't always do that, either, possibly excepting Cannoli who seems to pride himself on following the logic wherever it leads him. The others, yes, though I'm not sure about calling Tom a gentleman. :P But surely there are others who should be in that list - Vodalus is someone I rate very highly, SilverWarder, though maybe he's not around enough now for you to know him well, and many people who participate more rarely but have worthwhile posts when they do, like nossy or Sareitha. And then there are some of the usual suspects like everynametaken and Glieseian/random thoughts that perhaps get a bit more aggressive at times, but still make solid contributions for the most part...

Being rather similiar in political alignment to RT, never really debated with him, never really think of Joel as hard to budge, but then I never really aim with that and mind, and we tend to discuss science and philosphy more than idealogy, but yeah, the list as mentioned was hardly complete, those were just the ones I tend to think of as having arguments that I need to stop and analyze
